Geohazards and projects of interest have been determined through a series of meetings with local Tribal government, Council, and wider community engagement. The research is steered by our Connectors and partners in each community and the data is theirs to own and use as they see fit. In order to better understand, prepare, and mitigate debris flow avulsions near the village of Klukwan, the Ḵutí team deployed infrasound sensors, seismometers, and real-time cameras, and performed drone mapping of source cachement channels and fan mapping for debris flow avulsion history. Sensor data will be collected in the Summer of 2025 and analyzed. Project staff are assisting with the installation of a new weather station in town in the Summer of 2025, and supported the Chillkat Indian Village's application to the Department of Transportation for the construction of a new berm to redirect further avulsions away from the village.
